Screen recording can solve a ton of problems when it comes to your iPhone. You can use it to walk family members through an issue on their device, record a long iMessage or WhatsApp conversation, or save a video you find online that you can't download directly. While Apple doesn't make it obvious how to screen record on an iPhone, it's quite easy once you know how to set it up.
The fastest way to record your iPhone's screen is from Control Center, but you'll have to add this feature to Control Center first. To do so, go to Settings > Control Center, scroll down, then tap the green + button next to Screen Recording. Next, open Control Center by swiping downwards from the top-right corner your screen. Note: If your iPhone has a home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center.
You can start a screen recording by tapping the record icon (the circle with a thick dot inside). Your iPhone will begin screen recording three seconds after tapping this button. You can tap the button before this countdown finishes to cancel the recording before it starts. When you're done recording, open Control Center again and hit the record icon to stop the recording.
By default, your screen recordings have no sound, and you can't record the source audio from your iPhone. However, if you want to record audio from your iPhone's microphone as you record your screen, open Control Center, then tap and hold the record icon. You'll see a popover menu with a microphone button towards the bottom of the screen. Tap the Microphone button to turn it on, then start your screen recording. You can now speak while recording (or allow your microphone to pick up sound coming from your iPhone's speakers) to add audio to the screen recording.
If you enable Do Not Disturb (DND) before recording, alerts will not appear during your screen recording. You don't have to manually enable and disable DND every time you want to avoid notifications during screen recordings, however. Instead, you can hide them automatically. Once you set this up, DND will kick in just as you begin recording, and turn off as soon as you're done.
